Pied Piper of India 🇮🇳
By – Pamarty Venkataramana
The Constitution of India announces that it has been bestowed upon all India by ‘we, the people’.
It has however created few institutions that are regarded as being the pillars of a democratic society. On the basic premise that we, the People are a civilised lot and subscribe to the age-old traditional culture of Bharatvarsh.
What one has been noticing over seven decades though is the creation of Gods and Demi-gods across the ring and ladders of the haloed institutions- be it in Legislature, Executive or the Judiciary.
On a more dispassionate examination, one can say there are monsters, werewolves and vampires on the prowl that have besieged the land thanks to changed societal mores,a truncated system and decadence of institutional turrets of power.
Power. This has become the catchword. All seem to exist to assert one’s existence through seats of power. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Instances galore of women scorned turning demented; of evil men whose overtures failed becoming even more beastly and attempting gross acts of criminal nature against hapless womenfolk and little children; of ineligible leaderships set on a witch-hunt;of illiterate goons taking undue advantage of crooked policing system to assume extra-constitutional thrones of power. Even the failed policies are a result of slots reserved for nincompoops and boot-lickers in key positions of the bureaucracy.
None wants to let go of power. At whichever level or post in the hierarchical-ladder.
What then ails the Indian nation today?
So much so that cranky men in wigs go all out on extermination of the honour of innocent women until the #MeToo monster opens its fangs to devour the bigger creature.Of course, it is one thing that immunity has been handed out by the Constitution to insulate the holders of high office from wages of sin (as long as they are in office of constitutional power). The bureaucracy enjoys anonymity and political class, as cattle, go about in herds.
The sheep-mentality of the general public who are largely divided on basis of caste,sub-caste, creed, tribes, religion and regional considerations buttresses the shock imparted to the good conscience of any noble soul trapped within this country of inequality.
Day in and day out, this struggle continues: the good live maimed; the knowledgable gape stupefied and all the evil ones roam free carrying out their nefarious acts with impudence and seal of arrogance.
Who can bell the cat?
Who can stem this rot?
Who can turn Pied Piper of India?
Perhaps the voters of this nation will blow the bugle of victory at long last in the polls of 2019. For a more saner India and to ensure the punctured democracy will patch itself up and heal the lives of billion plus hypochondriacs who love swallowing pills of political parties going by the shades of their flag or the attire of these modern-day buccaneers and butchers of Constitution!
In God, we all Trust. For, thus far we appear to have been governed by semi-humans and inhuman ones. The humans feel left out!
