Exile the Pall-Bearers!
By- Pamarty Venkataramana
Who are the pall-bearers of our democratic society?
We,the People?
Nay.
Voting public?
No.
The hapless; the specially abled deaf-dumb-blind-paralysed-incapacitated;the disabled war veterans?
No way.
The poor peasant farmers;farm labourers; maid servants; weavers; sculptors; artisans; chowkidars; cobblers; vendors; shopkeepers; teachers; doctors; engineers; cooks; gardeners; electricians; plumbers; drivers; masons; musicians or any of the thousands of other hard working citizens who sweat day in and day out- struggling to eke out a livelihood as well as drive the engine of the national economy?
Not at all.
The Honourable members of Legislature and the August Houses of the Parliament?
Of course not.
Despite the bad press and general disaffection showered upon them and their predecessors in public office,it is a truism that nothing moves forward in a democracy without this haloed Institution that is the pride of our Constitutional democracy. No wonder then every social worker to vagabond to Good Samaritan in a billion plus Nation aspire to don that office of position. So, they are the most important cogs in the wheel of progress.
The Executive branch comprising of the selected bureaucrats?
Not really.
For, contrary to scripted films that have jettisoned the bad apples among them to epitomise the whole section of administration machinery, it is the dedicated services rendered by honest, committed officials who far outnumber the bad ones, which helps systems run society.
Is it Judiciary?
Most certainly not.
Because, it is not in the capacity of any one critic who passes caustic comments about the Courts and gargantuan delays to sit through even one whole day hearing the pathetic, painful and poignant litigation disputes of anonymous, general members of the public. But for the thankless toil of these praiseworthy gentry of the Constitution, lawlessness of jungle-law with Darwinian ‘might-is-right’ syndrome would have destroyed the fabric of a civilisational society. It takes a lot to discharge the honoured role of a ‘dispassionate but just’ judge which has to be amplified by a more transparent process of appointing members of the higher judiciary.
So, who then are the ‘pall-bearers’ of a vibrant Indian democracy?
One, the ones who presume and self-anoint themselves as being the add-on to the only three pillars defined by our Constitution.
Two, the idle minds and jobless vagabonds who pontificate on all acts of State spreading canards using modern technological tools as weapons of mass-disaffection towards all things established as the ‘rule-of-law’,under the Constitution.
Three, the devils and demons who succumb to vices imbibed in them generously by foreign forces who are plainly as well as perennially jealous of the mythical Indian growth story and the pristine glory of its ancient cultural ethos ( resulting from bypassing of the sacred Constitution ).
Four, the pseudo-intellectuals who resort to brokering and shameless sycophantic behaviour to jointly and severally create a ‘policy-vacuum’ on all fronts – even as the whole world community is at the cross-roads in a pandemic year(2020 A.D.)! Often times, the motley group hasn’t read the Constitution even once in its entirety!
Solution?
Exile all these pall-bearers of our constitutional democracy. Without further ado.
