Drums of War
By Pamarty Venkataramana
Drum-beats of war are music to the ears for arms-suppliers and mafiaso who revel in strife,sectarian-violence and create an atmosphere of general pandemonium.
The bands of violent minds are often numbed souls that have no identity of their own : they become subservient to the masters of War. All orders are followed as per the line-style of management. This uniformity of response induces a sense of ennui and camaraderie, popularly called as ‘military discipline’. Ennui, however, is a false sense of happiness.
Briefing before war time is as fake as debriefing after the war is stopped. This truth of life might upset a few thought-leaders who subscribe to the old school of world polity. But, the fact of the matter is civilizations evolve for the sake of Peace and not to be warring with one another.
The arms-race in tech-age is suicidal and by no length of imagination can civil society clap it’s hands at any establishment acquiring more and more weaponry in anticipation of attacks, assaults and wars. Peace is the mainstay of evolved nations.
The anti-thesis to praise of wars can only be abandoning of the nuclear weapons by the mighty powers who dictate the members of the United Nations Organization.
The apologetic phrases of ‘first use’ and’pre emptive strike ‘ are as cynical as can be. The added fact that nuclear codes are spread across many hands, both military and political heads lends a sense of incredulous affront to the dignity of humanity as a whole!
So, who beats these drums of War? Is it the non-governmental organizations or is the tempo set by mass-media frenetically, day in and day out?
This also poses a pertinent question as to whether it is not high time for democratic societies to pass an all-important legislation to require every journalist worth the salt, to swear an affidavit of declaration along with each breaking news story filed?
After all, the clouds of War are heard on the ground only through these drum-beats of War.
‘ Right policy-making ‘ at all levels of Government as also the proper enforcement of such a policy made, by all attached to it’s different departments can prevent wars.
– only those who can ponder over this homily can appreciate the fact that ‘drums of war’ are as scary and as evil as a hynea’s laugh on espying a child’s presence in a cottage on outskirts of the town.
Drums of War can never be compared to the sound of music. Eerie silence precedes as well as succeeds this noisy reminder of the fall of mankind. Peace, invariably is the casualty.
