Story of Tangawala

Story of  Tangawala

Author: Ranganadhan.S

It was a bright morning of 1873 in Calcutta. Vishwanath Datta, an attorney at the Calcutta High Court and his wife Bhuvaneswari Devi, a devout housewife along with their 10 year old kid Narendra, were going to market in a Tanga (horse-drawn carriage).

Boy Narendra was feeling joy by seeing objects moving behind, skills of tangawala in controlling horse and the sound he makes to control it as everything was new for him.

By seeing his joy, his father suddenly asked a question.

Narendra what do you want to become in future??

The boy replied: “Dad I want to become a Tangawala like him” and pointed to tangawala.”

Father smiled teasingly and said to his wife

“See you have given birth to future Tangawala”.

Bhuvaneshwari Devi was silent till she returns home finishing their work in market. Soon after coming home, she took bath and called Narendra to pooja room, she asked Narendra

Kid do you really wish to become Tangawala?

Narendra was silent.

She told “Narendra your wish to become Tangawala is not wrong, look at this picture, if you want to become tangawala become like him and spread light to world” as she pointed to picture of  lord Krishna riding chariot.

Both Wish of Narendra and words of his mother became true, the boy Narendra grown and became Swami Vivekananda and became a charioteer who spread the light of knowledge throughout the world.

download (2)Vivekananda was a great reformer who inspired youth by his messages, he has many written many books, and he always said that God dwells inside every heart. He had opinion that, a person who cannot see God in poor and unhealthy people, but claims to see God in the idol, is not a true worshipper he was also a great singer and composed several songs.

Vivekananda stunned the world at his 30th age by addressing Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893 by starting his speech with

“Sisters and brothers of America …,”

Moral of this incident is

Parents should create a path for children dream. The way parents guide and provide moral education to children decides their future, parents should not expect sweet mangoes by planting weed.

To end with beautiful quote of  swami Vivekananda,

“In a day, when you don’t come across any problems, you can be sure that you are travelling in a wrong path” ..
