Story of A Paper Boy

Author: Ranganadhan.S

Bangalore is described as silicon city, IT capital of India, Recently Bangalore is also joined to the club of Metro cities, and in Most of months climate of Bangalore will be cold. About 20% of Bangaloreans belongs to poor class, Dream is the only thing even poor can easily get.

This story is about one such poor boy, who is a son of an illiterate mother and whose father is a truck driver. The boy dreamt of becoming successful since his class-I. While on one side, crowd of people use to come his home early in the morning to ask his father return the loan he borrowed, on other side three time food was mirage. Somehow he managed to study up to 3rd std without any knowledge about family’s problem. At his age of 9, when he understood the misery of his family, he started to sell garlands strung by his mother in footpath daily, to collect his school fees.

After realizing that amount money, he earns,  was not sufficient for his fees and books, he joined as paper boy(paper distributing boy) under a paper-vendor. He was supposed to get up early at 4 AM & reach the vendor. After collecting paper he was supposed to deliver to all customers within 8 Km and then come back home & get ready for his school. To make up his time,  he used to skip his breakfast, he used to sit in last bench for first hour as he use to feel sleepy for getting up at 4 AM.

Everything was fine till he reached class 9th. The school authorities suddenly sent him out of school and strictly told him to come only after paying all his fees. Without knowing what to do, the boy approached “Krishna Veda Vyasa” the first customer whom he used to deliver paper daily to sponsor fees for one month. At first Krishna Veda Vyasa hesitated as he never seen this boy before, but after boy shown his progress card he was sad to see topper of class in ICSE syllabus was delivering him paper daily. Without second thought Krishna Veda vyasa went to boy’s school and paid entire fees for a year after finishing his school at 5 in evening the boy use to take unsold paper copies from vendor and used to sell to doors asking them to buy. The boy completed his 12th class in top grade and joined engineering in Bangalore institute of technology delivering paper on one side and with the help of Krishna Veda Vyasa.

As there is a proverb everyone has their day he got his day, Entire college got stunned by seeing CAT result, the poor paper boy had made it, he was cleared CAT and earned his seat in IIM-Calcutta, he was in the headlines of the same paper he used to deliver daily.

He is just 23 now, his name is Shiva kumarShiva kumar has found the path to Sunshilreach his goal, he thinks to start a charity, he dedicates all his success to Krishna Veda Vyasa, In future shiva wants to sponsor for the education of poor people like him. Let us all wish Shiva kumar  a huge success in his life, let him stand tall as an inspiration for millions of Indians.

For this moment we can stop Shiva’s story with a comma,

Dear friends ! How many of us seen the face of the boy who deliver us paper?? All we think is we are paying 150 bucks and we want paper in front of our door within 7AM, or else we’ll complain the vendor that boy is irregular or he is not on time. The vendor may remove the boy from job or may warn him to deliver early. But friends, please think the difficulty the delivery boy faces to earn Rs.800 a month, many of us even feel lazy to get up at 7 in morning during December but paper boy never wakes late than 4.30.

It’s not late, today at-least we can promise that we will help at-least one boy to come-up in his life. Ending with one of my favorite quote

POOR MAN RUNS FOR FOOD, WHILE RICH MAN RUN TO DIGEST HIS FOOD”..
