Attitude of Government School Principal’s and Staff

“Right to Education”, previous government never forgot to do its publicity on every platform, but the reality is totally different. I would like to expose the difficulties relating to this joke called “RTE”.

Bringing laws and patting your back is very easy, but its implementation is as difficult as “Brining Sanjeevani booti from Himalayas”. The first responsibility lies with DOE, it keeps on publishing the circular in daily newspapers on 6th or 7th page in a small remote corner where your eyes are unable to focus, but instructions are given to every government school principal by email. Second point remains the “ATTITUDE OF PRINCIPALS AND STAFF OF GOVERNMENT SCHOOL”. Parents of low income group somehow manage to enroll their children in neighborhood schools paying a meagre amount of Rs. 300 as fees and one time admission charges which are very less and few schools provide one free set of uniform along with the admission.

Now the problem starts when the child is ready to enroll in 6th standard. Parents want to get them enrolled in government schools and there they face all kinds of harassment.

1) Principal will make them wait for hours outside their office.

2) Then he/she will send the parent to admission incharge of the school without giving the parents proper instructions where to meet him/her.

3) Admission incharge will talk behave in a rude manner and insult the parents by asking the child’s DOB, previous school’s TC whereas the circular of DOE clearly states no DOB is required, only affidavit should be given by the parents stating that the child is fit for this class.

4) Someway or the other an affidavit will be produced but now an application will be asked, this application has to be signed by the school which has been given the power to authorize such admissions in the locality.

5) Again the same process will start, a wait stretching to multiple hours outside the principal office, finally getting admitted to the principal’s office after days only to be shouted and humiliated and then stated to get the application signed from the Education Officer of the zone.

6) Now parents will run to the Education Officer’s office who will very politely decline stating that he does not have any right to sign an application if the child has not studied in a recognized school.

7) The same Principal who’d send the parents to the Education Officer is actually the one who is authorized to sign such applications.

8) And there ends this entire chain which is followed by one of the below three options.

• The child eventually gets admission in late July after his parents run after a local leader or the influential person from the locality to get the job done
• If somehow the poor parents approach an educated person who instead of pursuing the Principal simply writes him a letter stating what his actual responsibilities and duties are, then the Principal further hardens his stands and ensures that the child never gets admission in that school
• Worse off, the child totally gives up on education and starts his life as a vagabond

One more thing which I wish to add, that the government school staff are already getting hefty salaries yet they loot the poor kids by shaving off the money which has been allocated to them by the government. Each student is entitled approximately Rs 1000 each for books and uniform at the start of the session and during the winter break, however the staff only provide them materials for approximately half the sum and make them sign for the full sum, the remaining portion goes into the pockets of the staff again. Why is there so much greed? Where does this all end?
