Monsoon Musings and Self Realisation
By – Pamarty Venkataramana
Monsoon has its magical charm writ all across Nature. This gets reflected in nature of mankind and behavioural patterns of both men and women. The birds take shelter in safer havens and animals scurry about to stay dry. All plants and trees heave a sigh of visible relief as they get their annual freshwater bath and glisten bright as morning sun’s rays awaken the field of sleepy sunflowers.
All of a sudden, it seems as if a celestial dance is being enacted in tandem with spirit of life. Those more fortunate can even hear the clap of thunder accompanied by show of lightning sparkling and hurtling towards the ground below. All in all, a miraculous season of delightful symphony played by Mother Nature with the right tunes being sung only by those who are endowed with the correct moods and thoughts, regardless of circumstances surrounding their life’s journey.
This carnival cruises along with forcible indoors habitation by mankind that is otherwise an outdoor animal species. In recent years,we notice a huge hue and cry being raised about natural disasters during the time of splendurous rainy weather. These screaming heads fail to realize that flooding of roads and inundation is caused by mismanagement of systems,a lack of scientific urban infrastructure planning, unlawful Land-grabbing and illegal encroachments as well as wanton occupation of public spaces in guise of political charades like distribution of pattas to tracts of hills, river banks and low lying zones.
Mindset is the factor that determines how happy or unhappy one feels in such times of cleansing.
It is an established fact that the human mind is man’s best friend as well as his greatest enemy.
Just as the pitter-patter of raindrops feels like music to the ears as you sip a strong cup of joy and ruminate over the ways of society, the startling realisation of being isolated in community of flock mentality snaps the reverie of serenity and joy.
Random thoughts stream through the piping steam vapour of the tea-cup.
A male colleague who is otherwise affluent said his spouse goes cranky once every month but is otherwise co-operative in raising kids. There are others who crib about wife being a shrew and few others who dote only on a husband who makes money, by hook or by crook to in turn pass on all that Monday to her hands. To add to the melee is a motley group of emerging youth who are falling prey to hedonistic lifestyle and do not want kids in spite of double income earnings. There are judges who are batting for legal recognition to hitherto frowned upon immoral relationships in communities.
And then, a seasoned political bigwig boasts that he is only nominated parliamentarian who got appointed as Minister of Law without having ever gone to a law college.
There are others in that club of highbrows who became parliamentarians after having started out in life as auto-rickshaw or cab-drivers or black-marketeers or as rowdy-sheeters or as maids and masseuers.
All the apathy and wry remarks of lesser mortals with no appetite for finer things of life such as spiritual poetry eclipsed the yen for writing and that got labelled as ‘writer’s block’ putting a halt to the lone pleasurable past time of a humble workaholic.
… As if the monsoon season weaved a magic,a message popped out with a simple command : ..and what about re – writing all of your, Poems full of Divine and Celestial Love, respected Sir?
This arrow, coming from one who was revered as holy man and a ‘Sadguru’ who lives only on water and is known to drive out blues of other folks whose life is filled with melancholic ways certainly pepped me up.
Yes, it is true.. a diamond in gutter does not lose it’s worth. Only one requires intention and guts to pick it up and wash it so it sparkles brilliant as a Lode Star shining in the sky. One must be very courageous and confident to acknowledge and respect another person’s enormous knowledge.
Envy, avarice and wickedness reign in modern era more than ever before. So, to be able to commend another’s virtues is laudable.
But can the scent of monsoon showers wipe out the bloodied faces of war-torn lands on this globe?
Germans training Ukrainians in latest armaments are akin to Nazi’s facing Russians during Second World War. Ukraine’s forte in the war is the patriotic zeal to save their country as was by Britain in bloody WW2. USA and Britain were facing the Axis powers which like the Russian Federation under current dispensation are out to grab more territories. This might be version of western commentators. But the lessons of this unfortunate war are loud and clear. Sovereignty and Security go together, howsoever weak the country it may be. Even USA has learnt this hard lesson in Afghanistan.
Ceasefire should immediately be ordered by the United Nations Security Council.
Any country not obeying this order will be international criminal in the eyes of the world.
Wars turn men into beasts. Humanity is nowhere to be seen. The tragedy of the war is only enhanced by the lies of the journalists who are merely justifying the cause of one side or the other.
The dismissal of the Ukrainian Ambassador to Britain shows clearly the attitude of its actor-turned-President that is autocratic : the facade of showing to Europe that he is fighting for Europe when he is facing Russia.
He seems to think that he has good old Joe in his pocket and so, Europe, including Britain, are of little consequence. Georgeta that even America is a democracy. Public opinion even in America, can change. And it will in 2024.
In USA, Trump has been calling that elections in 2020 were a complete fraud. In Britain, a bunch of Tories have ruled the country for thirteen years. Over and above, there are the Royals with bags full of billions and a permanent tenure. And, it calls itself a democracy. Indeed, there are many faces of democracy, depending upon traditions and conventions.
Brexit has already made the U.K. almost impossible to govern as a democratic country. Or so it seems. The result of the referendum in 2016 already showed the fracture lines. Northern Ireland and Scotland favoured ‘no’ to Brexit. Only Englishmen favoured Brexit. But, lamentable, UK rules over Scotland and Northern Ireland. This truth must be accepted, either now or in a few years.
Back home, why do leaders of desi political parties choose their heirs as the next leaders? It is like asset inheritance and most certainly, not in the national interest. Maybe, just like charity behind from home, the much loved Modi Ji should first get rid of mice from the house of people first. This be followed up by laws to cleanse the country’s electoral corruption. India badly is in need of an able and courageous, upright Advocate General or Solicitor General, to stand up to brigand-like judges who are known to act in a cavalier-fashion and bypass the set rules of procedure to bail out known offenders and seek to override mandate of people as well as their elected Government. Justice must not only seem to be done but done in real.
Mind is the master of man.
Peace is the ultimate goal, not Victory .
Negotiations is not a negative word.
Perhaps I am imagining Utopia. But that is the wondrous magic of Monsoon season : the most stone-hearted person would but melt and mellow down to become a kindred soul.
