Young India Smiles
By- Pamarty Venkataramana
75 years of ‘freedom’ as a ‘Nation’. Thirty years since the umbilical cord of red tapism and licence raj of the Executive Wing has been cut by one sagacious Prime Minister P .V .Narasimha Rao.The seven-year itch in the 8th year of a Parliament having absolute majority under Prime Minister ModiJi is also a good phenomenon to happen in 2022, a landmark year for the People’s Republic of India.
We were an amalgamation of hundreds of Princely States including large kingdoms before the call for ‘self rule’ and freedom from tyranny of imperial colonialists became a huge wave : the Race of ‘Natives’ towards independence began as a ‘mutiny’ and grew into the largest movement in history of modern world. Remarkably, won on the twin planks of ‘non-violence’ and ‘non-cooperation movement’.
Are we indeed #OneNation and are we really a free country with ‘equality before law and equality of laws’?
This plagues the mind of patriots who have spurned offers from the #BrainDrain bug inspite of being achievers and receiving lucrative offers from advanced countries beyond the seas. Why?
Since we are still shackled by notions of #CasteReservations & #MinorityAppeasement that meet their match in eerie syndromes called #PoliticalOpportunism and #SecularPolicies.
India has a federal structure but unitary form of Government. The three pillars mentioned in the Constitution are Legislature,Executive and Judiciary but the fourth pillar. The moguls of mass-media appear to be ruling roost in the age of technology-driven information. Be it television talk-shows or media-trials as news-scoops,the written code is being overridden by unwritten practices, which in turn has become a licence to challenge theme of #GoodGovernance.
Or so it appears.
The notion of a Nation does not seem to fit in absence of an #UniformCivilCode and the concept of equality of all citizens goes for a toss given the divisive qualifications mentioned above. So,what needs to be done by the present Government is to urgently pilot a Bill bringing about a common civil code. And,by tweaking the existing laws in myraid little ways,a more harmonious society resulting in a qualitative life for every citizen can be easily achieved.
Religion is to be kept off policies of State. That alone is the meaning of being a ‘secular’ country. The terms ‘patriotism’ and ‘nationalism’ are not synonyms but most often misunderstood terms leading to few acrimonious situations. Likewise, the tussle for power, more power and absolute power leads to the usurping of domain of Institutions created by the Constitution, by vested interests manning extra-judicial and extra-constitutional Bodies,of public acclaim.
The line dividing galleries of industrialists and politicians has disappeared with a free market economy beckoning their ilk, alike to participate in profit sharing of public enterprise and of common endeavours. Capitalism and Communism have got indoctrinated to socialism with crony business clubs sponsoring as also funding political outfits in a wanton manner.
So,on the auspicious occasion of #AzadiKaAmrutMahotsav let us all pledge to devise policies and laws which would help evolve into a mature society, not of diverse or conflicting rules but one which would have only One Law equally applicable to all.
We value all the contributions made in every which manner by millions of compatriots to make this freedom from foreign yoke and oppressors possible. We owe it to the Founding Fathers to undo any unjust amendments brought into the original book of all prople, viz, the Constitution of India over the decades of existence as the Indian Nation. Let all political parties uphold the directive principles of State Policy enshrined in the Constitution of india.
India, that is Bharat, must remain the beacon of light which this part of the planet has been throughout centuries of History and evolution of Mankind into the democractic world of today.
All Indians smile at Young Indian Nation as it turns 75 years old. Jai Hind!
